Toppled Wine Glass or Egg?

By Antonia Leslie
Sometimes the size and proportions are very difficult to compute and one can almost make the building into a miniature, making you take on the size of a giant with dizzying effects. The windows are all worked to death. You can choose between the egg, the toppled wine glass and the triangle, sometimes all on the same building. The balcony has taken on the importance of the alter although thankfully they do not have the usual English accessories of two chairs, a table and a bicycle.

My favourites were tucked away in a marina. Suddenly there were flatpack upright flying buttresses worthy of the Notre Dame (well alright not really). I thought they may act as windbreakers but in another world you could use them to move home by just flying there, holiday flat and all.

It was June when I saw this place so the school holidays had not started. People go on holiday in mass as of mid to late July and the media talks of nothing but the black weekends, meaning very heavy irritated holiday traffic.

In June, during the week all these extraordinary places are empty, so you can just wonder about and look and gasp. Somehow there even seemed to be less mosquitos than the rest of the Camargue.
