October 18, 2006 Vlieger & Vandam by Aristotle Carolien Vlieger and Hein van Dam,the founders of Rotterdam based label Vlieger & Vandam, have worked together on various projects since 2000; combining their skills as a Graphic Designer & a 3D Designer. ‘Guardian Angel’ was the first in a series of striking bags. It makes a strong statement about growing rates of crime and violence. Each of the bags appears to contain a gun or a knife. The idea grew out of the increasing number of media stories that focus on lawlessness & antisocial behaviour. Perceptions and fear of violence soon outgrew the number of crimes actually committed. As a response, Vlieger & Vandam wanted to give people the impression of feeling secure, arming them with the Guardian Angel handbag, which is included in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, NY.
