Mærsiân
by Jamie E17

Mærsiân was created in 2006, when Beyond The Valley offered Siân Hiscock, then fashion graduate of Central Saint Martins, to show her work in their S/S ’07 collections.

Her graduate collection was inspired heavily by the home arts and craft movement in the 70’s - crochet, hand embroidery and traditional techniques taught by her Grandmother and Mother, both of Romany Gypsy roots. The print designs feature icons and patterns from Tarot card imagery; snakes are predominant, the sign of wealth and prosperity amongst Romany gypsy culture.

The capsule collection with Beyond the Valley, took on a more Burlesque feel, with freak show performers, big tops and symbols associated with the dark, tawdry moods of early sideshows.

Mærsiân is available from Beyond The Valley from this December.
