CHARVAS, TRAILER TRASH AND TRINKETS
by Gemma Winter

"To be aesthetically seductive, humorous, noisy and decadent." is the philosophy behind Emma Bell's work. The 23-year-old fashion design graduate from the University of Westminster has a myriad of influences. Inspired by sportswear clad British working class teens and their American trailer park counterparts. Taking in additional reference from MC Devvo, Larry Clark, Dolly Parton, beach raves, trashy trinkets, chavs smoking Lambert and Butler and Michael Alig's Club Kids. Adopting a fusion approach combining obscure fabrics and clashing colours; resulting in a superfluity of metallic lame leggings, blouson jackets constructed from tea towels, and macs made out of vinyl tablecloths. The creations topped off with gaudy necklaces covered in sweets and plastic food.
