Lennie Lee - Censored

An artwork by London-based Jewish artist Lennie Lee has been censored from a show in Germany. Lee’s photograph entitled Judensau (Jewish-pig) which examines anti-semitic stereotypes, was removed from a show due to start on 25th January 2007 in Berlin.

The show’s curator, Reto Pulfer, wrote to Lee in an email explaining that he had removed the piece from the exhibition as he did not “want the attention - circling around questions of censorship and German history.”

his is not the first time Lee has encountered problems in Germany. In 2005, on the 60th anniversary of the end of the war, Judensau was removed from Treptow Town Hall, in East Berlin, by senior politician, Ulrich Starr, in a storm of controversy.
