DID YOU SEE THOSE BOOTS
by Antonia Leslie

For a couple of seasons Margiela seems to have moved in to new realms of design. The handmade side is kept for his Artisanal line and his fashion shows are cool and collected. The shoulders were as high and square as American footballers and the square torso shape was repeated in dyed rabbit fur, with boleros like boxes. Sometimes the silhouette was almost 1940's secretary and then Studio54 boxy jackets and shiny leggings. The colours were slick. Flashes of fluorescent with black flesh or white. The thick ankle was back again with ski pants and the new boots. Gone since a long time are Japanese toes. Now they are replaced by knee length fluorescent leather with or without curtains attached to the outside. The models came out at the end in white dress bags so we saw only shoe.
