LIFE IS BOOTIFUL!
by Gemma Winter

Marcus Coates latest work 'Dawn Chorus' is achieved through mimicry and masquerade. Enlisting the help of wildlife sound recordist Geoff Sample and a Bristolain choir. The singers learnt to sing along their bird noises, then the footage was then sped up 16 times, resulting in the final film.

"There is something about peoples head movements and breathing which when speeded up is quite bird like." Marcus Coates.

"As a mark of authencity as soon as I went in I could recognise which bird was which." Geoff Sample.

"I will certainly look at the chaffinch in a different light when I see them in my garden." Pearl Conway, chaffinch singer.
