DERYCK WALKER SPRING/SUMMER 08
by Anthony Symonds

Deryck walker’s first women’s offering produced an interesting contradiction; it served to underline what a strong menswear designer he is becoming. Showing men’s and women’s together is rarely a happy affair, but walkers strict take on colour and silhouette produced an easy synergy. The walker woman is very much an extension of the walker man; Precision cutting, graphic motifs, soft architectural references and of course the white shirt. As a starting point for further development it looked assured and believable. The real triumph however was in the strengthening vision of his menswear. Light, fresh, and lean with a surprising degree of polish for someone so new. There are echoes of vintage Lang here and some devo-esque, new wave moments, but in walkers hands it’s all good stuff. Go Deryck
