Chinese artist colony
by Joey Phi

I had the opportunity to discover Song Zhuang, an impressive artist colony during my last trip to China. Located in an eastern suburb of Beijing, it hosts nearly 400 artists from all over the world.

It represents one of the largest artist communities in China where avant-garde painters, sculptors, photographers and performance artists call the area home.

In Beijing is the 798 art district located in what once was a factory. I took me 2 entire days to visit every art gallery and artist studio, which was quite impressive. There's also a great café where you can find a variety of books on design, art, photography, fashion, etc.

If you find yourself in Beijing, don't miss out, it's truly worth the trip.
