Nasir Mazhar + OTHON & Tomasini
by Lee Adams

The audience at Nasir Mazhar's Spring/Summer show in Hoxton Square today were mesmerised by the baroque spectacle awaiting them beyond the curtain. Pianist/Composer OTHON was otherworldly, encased in a strange bridle/surgical mask bristling with antennae, whilst artiste extraordinaire Tomasini appeared swathed in scarlet, replete with a cardinal’s hat. They performed for two hours whilst a tableaux of statuesque models styled by Nicola Formichetti displayed Nasir's fantastic concoctions involving references to diving bells and butterfly catchers (Le Scaphandre et le papillon), industrial cages and black veils that covered the head but revealed the sex. This unique collaboration yielded so many sublimely beautiful and unusually moving images.
