now but not then

Espace Pierre Cardin near Place de la Concorde, that's where we were, probably on purpose as there was a touch of Cardin throughout the show. 2001 Space Odessy hoods, satin quilted moonboots and groups of models that took 60's fashion positions for the photographers. There were kaftans and minis and long long legs. Despite all these elements this show was not at all stuck in the swinging sixties. How could could we imagine for a second that Junko Shimada would make that mistake. It was all thoroughly modern and statuesque with no cliches to be seen. Some silhouettes were structured almost metallic,"cocktail" dresses in pastel lame, whilst others were soft and gentle, oversize jumpers. All these differing fabrics and cuts seemed to work so well with moonboots and the studio 54 floor.
