Russia in paris
by Antonia Leslie

There were Russian dolls everywhere on the seats to greet us, and at some point Kate Bush rang out with Babouchka, so we got the theme. As usual lovely knitwear and weaving with all the Russian doll colours and motifs. The models looked wrapped and warm. I sat there thinking of samovars, gold onion topped cathedrals and 1970's Kansai Yamamoto . It was very nice to see some colour as this has been quite a monochrome season in Paris. Lots of chapkas, layering and quilted jackets. There were gypsy dresses in printed lightwieght wool and more chapkas. A show full of intricate details. We all left feeling very enthusiastic and slightly underdressed.
