Graham Durward at Maureen Paley
by Rob Diament

Maureen Paley presents the first solo exhibition for Scottish born, New York-based artist Graham Durward.

A series of large new paintings depicting the smoke from burning incense in the artist’s studio are shown alongside a group of portraits of men whose faces have been obscured and disfigured. The combined effect is soul-stirring and positively spellbinding.

Durward has a fresh voice and is wihout a doubt one to watch closely. He was recently awarded an Abbey Fellowship in Painting from The British School at Rome which begins in April.

The exhibition runs until 5th April 2009 at Maureen Paley, London, E2 6JT. Wed - Sun, 11am-6pm.
