all because the lady love's milk tray
by Antonia Leslie

The temperature had dropped sharply outside the beautiful school being used as the venue for the Kenzo show. All was saved as they gave us tea and cakes to warm up.The warming carried on with a palate of chocolates, coffees, brandies and whiskeys that marched down the catwalk. The silhouettes were long flowing and quite intellectual. I particularly liked the use of very lady librarian fabrics such as tweed, near tartan and paisley, the Cambridge female student of the fifties. Low slung waists and floppy cardigans gave an artistic twist and took you from the realm of a jolly good highland walk to Bloomsbury painters and people called Vanessa. An occasional 70's feel was glimpsed as floor length a line shirt dresses in Zandra Rhodes prints graced a masculine blazer or two. Cafe con leche.
