close encounters of the chanel kind
by Antonia Leslie

The Chanel show set was so bleak that the photographer's jeans looked positively colourful. The floor was covered in anthracite dust and rocks. The catwalk was like an abandoned jetty on a dried up lake and sulpher like smoke escaped from underneath it.The last scene of Get Carter on the desolate coal dump beach came to mind. The models were released from white light Chanel translucent boxes, now I thought of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. All the clothes were in varying degrees of black and anthracite. The Matrix popped into my head. The Chanel tweed was mixed with used black jeans and bovver boots,Coco and Punk. There was hardly a leg to be seen and even the evening wear was tough, with sequined sleeveless boiler suits worn with sharp winkle pickers. In contrast our gift lipsticks were pink
