night birds
by Antonia Leslie

White Chapel murder mystery and ladies of the night, that's what I thought Edward Finney was talking about for the Galliano collection. Subdued night with street lamp colours, difficult to define, just like at twilight all the same yet different. Sometime the ladies had forgotten their skirts and paraded with long thigh length socks. The fabrics were at times very outdoors with tweeds wools and mohairs, but kept feminine by the shapes and waists (clinched). There were oversized felt tam o' shanters with a cocky pheasant feather at a rakey angle. The evening finale was full of the signature bias or floating chiffons, some in powerful colours. Lipstick red, Brandy brown and silver birch. The seemed to fill the catwalk as they glided by. All for the night birds amongst us.
