train steam hats and luggage
by Antonia Leslie

Yes that is a train in the Cour Carre du Louvre under a tent. Marc Jacobs is the train master of the big theatrical show. We did go very quickly from grand spectacle to being lost in the last age of innocence and the years just before the first world war. Train steam and station with upperclass women from an Edith Wharton novel being helped with their copious luggage to a waiting car. Hobble skirts and cropped jackets, shawl collars, brocade tea coats and huge Edwardian hats. There were also cleverly modern Edwardian trouser suits and dressing for dinner dresses. I loved the long elegant layering with very clever proportions finishing with a shocking view of an ankle. High platform shoes, still with a 1910 twist, made the girls walk with the slow dignity that was just what was required.
