Extraordinary, breathtaking, emotional… 1994's 'O' explores the minutiae of form. Enhanced by costumes that cleverly tricked the eye, to a soundtrack of rock'n'roll statement tunes- Iggy Pop, Wire… updated 'O' stands the test of time. Stravinsky's 'Apollo' orchestrated soundtrack created a sublime backdrop for Clarks deceivingly simple themes. Encased in a mirrored cube the dancer becomes multi visual, escaping dreamlike. Doors swing and reveal. Clark uses twisted classical contortions in an intellectual way, he himself appearing almost disabled on clear perspex walking sticks. Genius!
