Oh the strict styling of the well dressed woman, one thought of Carole Lombard. The accessories definitely had a thirties feel and reminded one of an era where the lack of money led to removable fur collars, gloves and oversized buttons as decoration. The waists were clinched and quite high giving the legs extra length and made the often despised cropped pant really work. The daytime fabrics were softly rigid and I thought of Orlon and the iron free stay press sixties. There seemed to be an underlying theme of butterflies. We had a stiff jersey printed with butterfly markings, what seemed to be a wool silk mix printed with a computer butterfly mingling in and out of the weave, and even late afternoon metallic fabric like butterfly wings. I thought of the last Alexander McQueen moth show, but only in passing. The evening was biased a la Maison Galliano. Just missing were the finger waves but the strict hair stopped the thirties in its tracks. Thank you Mr Gaytten for the modern take on smart.
